Earth Day Assembly by Grade 3 students

Mission accomplished  !!!! Earth day assembly was merged very well with grade 3's present unit on natural resources. Students presented a scenario where few natural resources were no more available on Earth. They showcased this by creating RIP signs of water, trees, coal and air.

The assembly was planned to make everyone aware of these resources which play a very important role in maintaining a balance in nature The message was powerful and meaningful. It got the audience thinking about their actions as citizens of the world.

The students did so well today :) I feel really proud to be a grade 3 teacher and hope these kids continue being more aware and responsible towards their surroundings. Bravo Grade 3 !!

I will be posting the videos of the assembly very soon.

Finding their dancing partner

Story of Freddie the Fish

To make the students aware of the effects of water pollution on the creatures whose home is water,  I read a story of Freddie.

I am glad that this story made the students think of the effects of water pollution and how it is very difficult to clean up dirty water.

Expressing through art

Students created art work related to 🌍 day.  They could make clear connections with their present unit on natural resources.  Students used different mediums to create their art work. However, soft pastels were their favourite :)

Report Writing

Students were tuned into the format of news report. Students had to match the headlines with the correct news report.

Fishbowl activity!

The “fishbowl” is a teaching strategy that helps students practice being contributors and listeners in a discussion.

During this activity students asked questions, presented opinions, and shared information about Earth's resources.

This strategy is especially useful to make sure all students participate in the discussion, when you want to help students reflect on what a “good discussion” looks like, and when you need a structure for discussing a difficult topics. Few topics which were discussed were:
  1. What is natural resources?
  2. Examples of natural resources?
  3. What are those kind of materials which are man-made yet natural?
  4. What do you understand by the word finite?
